The Dalton Police Department is investigating a fatal single car crash that occurred early yesterday morning on the North Dalton Bypass. Investigators believe that the driver, 52-year-old Olen Roberts of Chatsworth, experienced some sort of medical emergency that caused the crash.

Shortly before 4:30 am, 911 dispatchers received a report that a man was trying to drive to Hamilton Medical Center with chest pains and alerted officers to be on the lookout for his red Honda Civic. At approximately 5:07 am, a witness reported seeing a westbound vehicle matching the description in the lookout leave the roadway on the bypass near Vista Drive and hit a tree. The witness told investigators that the driver didn’t hit his brakes or attempt to veer back onto the road before hitting the tree.
