Pittman approves capital purchases

Murray County Sole Commissioner Brittany Pittman approved several capital purchases during the monthly meeting held Tuesday morning.

They included:

*One John Deere Tractor 6430 cab tractor with mowing equipment with three installmant payments of $39,367.67;

*BIS Gigital-recording system for superior court for $5,247.50;

LLC for the Sheriff’s Department for tag readers for $339,990; and

*Hyper Reach (reverse 911) notification System for $8,000 annually.

Pittman also approved $10, 000 to Pyrotecnico to provide the Fourth of July fireworks show which will be held July 5 with a rain date of July 6.

Sunday, June 15 was proclaimed Tim Howard Day.

Howard is a 1978 graduate of Murray County High School and has been an educator with the school system since 1982.

According to the proclamation, Howard “has an extensive list of local history involvement including volunteering at the Chief Vann House since 1978, organized Friends of the Vann House in 1989, led the efforts to survey all of Murray County’s cemeteries, chaired the Murray County history Committee that researched, wrote and published Murray County heritage in 1987 along with several other publications, taught Murray on My Mind 1986-2011, appointed as first and only Official Murray County Historian in 2008, four successful National Register nominations for Murray County history districts, served on comittees to restore and preserve the old Spring Place Methodist Church, the Wright Hotel, the Chatsworth Depot and the Murray County High School’s Rock Building, served two terms as the president of the Whitfield-Murray historical Society and involved with numerous other projects, committees and boards...”

Other recognitions for Howard include Murray County Teacher of the Year twice, STAR Teacher twice, American History Teacher of the Year by the Georgia Daughters of the American Revolution and the Georgia Colonial Dames, Berry College Alumni Association President’s Award twice and a Distinguished Service Award, Sponsor of the Year for Georgia State Jr. beta Club Council, Chamber of Commerce Young Man and Humanitarian of the Year and Community Champion of the Year.

In other business, Pittman reappointed Edward Dunn and David McDaniel to the Land Use Planning Commission.
