Three men have been charged with aggravated assault on a person aged 65 or older, kidnapping and armed robbery in connection with a home invasion that happened last Tuesday afternoon.

According to Murray County Sheriff Gary Langford, two men entered the residence at 895 sitton Road around 4:30. The suspects knocked a 76-year-old male to the ground and threatened to kill him. The suspects demanded to know where the safe and guns were and demanded money.

The men duct taped the victim’s hands together and took him from the living room into the bedroom where they then stole guns from the safe.

According to the incident report, the victim lived at the home with his grandson who had gone out to eat. The victim told the responding officer, Jimmy Mathis, that he heard a knock on the door after his grandson left the home.

“He said he thought it was his grandson returning to get something he had forgot. (The victim) said as he was opening the door, someone pushed it open and rushed him, knocking him to the floor. He said two white males, about six feet tall, forced their way into the house and one of the males duct taped his hands together.”

The report also said that one of the suspects threatened to kill him if he did not cooperate.

The GBI assisted the MCSO with the investigation and during the course of the investigation it was determined that Paul Moody, Richard McGee and Rollin Griffin were involved.

The MCSO also received assistance from the Gordon County and Gilmer County Sheriff’s departments.

Griffin, 22, of River Street in Ellijay, and Moody, 21, of Old Tales Creek Drive, Ellijay, were both arrested in Ellijay and charged on Friday.

McGee, 21, of U.S. 411, Ranger, was arrested and charged on Saturday.

According to reports, Moody knew the grandson and knew that there would be guns and money at the home and set the robbery up, planning the operation.

This incident was not related to an earlier home invasion according to Langford.

A home on Deer Park Drive was the scene of a home invasion on March 7.

Three people in the home were held at gunpoint around 4:30 a.m. One man was pistol whipped.

Four people have been arrested in connection with that incident.

44-year-old Patrick Lavern Baker of Dalton, 25-year-old David Nathaniel Drain of Chatsworth, 44-year-old Corey Lane Griffin of Dalton and 37-year-old Marlena Diane Harkless have all been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, kidnapping and burglary in connection with the Deer Park Drive incident.

A motive for that crime has not yet been released by authorities.

Authorities are still seeking Morlin Marquis Moore in connection with that case.
