On Tuesday, around 1 p.m., the Whitfield County 911 Center received calls concerning a white Taurus weaving and running red lights on the South Bypass. A deputy in the area located the vehicle and attempted to stop it. The driver refused to stop and continued on the Bypass at a slow speed, weaving and continuously running off the roadway. Another deputy joined in the slow chase and attempted to get in front of the vehicle but was unable to due to the car weaving and crossing the center line. When the car approached Connector 3, the driver sped up and drove straight through the front of a business located at 3198 N. Dug Gap Road. The car came to a stop after running through an interior wall. An employee of the business (Carpet Alley Inc.) was sitting at his desk and was knocked out of his chair by the impact of the car coming through the wall. This employee was identified as 38 year old Miguel Cruz of Dalton. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 72 year old Donald Rogers of Chatsworth. Both subjects were transported to Hamilton Medical Center by Whitfield EMS. It is believed at this time the driver was driving in a reckless manner due to a possible medical condition he was experiencing. The incident is still under investigation.
