The North Murray vs. North Murray face off is one thing that head coach David Gann said the guys have down pat. “The guys have been going up against each other for so long,” said Gann. Gann remarked, “Everyone looked really good tonight.” Gann could make this comment in full confidence as nearly the entire Mountaineer roster hit the field at some point in the evening. “One thing we tried to work on was depth,” Gann said. “We really tried to play some of our backup guys, but still played our starters in the first quarter.”
North Murray will start the season off on the road as they travel to Southeast Whitfield for their August 30th season opener. When preparing to take on the Raiders, Gann said that they would examine the Southeast offenses. “They run two different offenses,” said Gann. “One is similar to ours, and that helps us out, being as it’s something we’ve seen.” Gann added that the Raiders have another spread-gun, no huddle package that is different than what the Mountaineers have dealt with in the past. The Mountaineers will spend this week building a game plan to combat both of the Raiders’ styles.
A year ago, the Mountaineers defeated Southeast Whitfield 37-14. This year’s game will take place at Southeast at 7:30 p.m.
